Majority of the weapons have come in pretty balanced this time around, I think you will hear a little banter because someones favorite gun might not be good enough in a specific category but they forget each weapon has a strength and weakness somewhere. There are a lot of options, but remember we are referencing TTK values that are quite marginal between the weapons.

Here is just a general guide on all of the assault rifles and the categories they excel in, this is by no means a rank list of good and bad.

M4 - Good all around assault rifle that does good at all ranges. The weapon is a jack-of-all-trades and with a certain attachments you can further tune the weapon for short or longer range engagements. Weapons that focus more on short or long will typically outpace the M4 in their appropriate engagements. Warzone 2.0 The M4 is probably going to fit into the medium/long range category and it will do very well.

TAQ-56 - Decent all around assault rifle that excels better in range where it can. The weapon seems worse than the M4 in all ways until you start looking at the last damage drop off. The rof is slower and the recoil is far more manageable to control at ranges. You can push out the bullet velocity and damage range and you have probably the best long range assault rifle. I think it could stand to have a bit of a buff somewhere Warzone 2.0 I believe this weapon will be one of the most consistent long range assault rifles out there. Think of a GRAU.

Kas 7.62 - The most noticeable thing about this weapon is that its kind of like the AK version of the M4 that is does well pretty much everywhere. There are two things this weapon (any kastov) does better than most weapons. Your movement speed is way faster and the damage range potential is massive. You can further stack up attachments to increase your mobility and increase the range making this weapon an extremely versatile weapon. Warzone 2.0 It could fall into the long range meta for sure, but its most likely going to be a solid all around weapon. The rof is little slow that there is a pretty long list of weapons that can beat in under 15m.

Kas 74u - Keeping up with the kastov trend of speed and snappiness this is a short range assault rifle that is closer to SMG than anything else. The weapon is number in damage under 22m but quickly outmatched by everything else. The weapon has the fastest ADS speed with gives it the largest attachment potential. Warzone 2.0 short range ARs always were in a weird spot in warzone because most players wouldn't want to use double ARs and worry about ammo. Sniper support all day long.

Lachmann 5.556 - This weapon has a fast fire rate, simple recoil pattern, but has terrible reload speed. Above 3 seconds is pretty noticeable. The damage on this weapon outperfoms the TAQ and extends just a little further than the M4. Excellent weapon in ground war and invasion where you can put the range on. Warzone 2.0 This is going to be the most obvious choice as a long range assault rifle. Solid rate of fire and easy to control folks will be beaming dudes out from 100m.

STB 5.556 - This weapon is an absolute savage under 15m. I do not think there is any other weapon out there that can compete with that type of TTK, maybe BRs with headshots. The 2nd damage drop puts the weapon just slightly behind the other rifles but beyond that it is largely ineffective. HIgh rate of fire and easy to control makes this weapon super effective in 6v6 but you need to be careful in ground war or invasion due to the weak damage ranges. Warzone 2.0 similar to Kas 74u this weapon is will make a decent sniper support, the 74u is probably a bit better. If the ARs end up not sharing ammo as BRs, I can see this being an excellent compliment. Still, CQC ARs are more niche than anything else.

M16 - Burst weapon that can 1 burst an enemy at about 15m as long as you get chest shots. The TTK potential is amazing but once you add a second burst in there it really hurts the weapon. I found far more success using the weapon in semi-auto and treating it as more of a short/mid range ars. Burst weapons are tricky to balance so don't expect anything to happen except, they will attempt to fix it and it will be broken as well, during that time go use it and get your challenges done. Warzone 2.0 I find it hard for this weapon to find a spot anywhere, once armor is added even the semi-auto firing will lose a lot of potential. THe same short ranges where the burst is most effective means the weapon is outclassed severely by most other SMGs and mid-range ARs.

Kas 5.45 - I will play devils advocate on this one and say the weapon isn't awful. Its okay, its just everything else is better. Since it is a Kastov it has solid movement and ads speed which gives you more options for attachments. The fire rate is slow so longer shots are easier to control but the damage drop off is severe beyond 29m. If you are enjoying Kastov variants then just use 7.62 as the all arounder or the 74u for short game. Warzone 2.0 a buff will go along way but the weapon is redundant regardless. Unless they attempt to diversify guns more on other attributes rather than simply damage and ranges this will just be another grey weapon in a grey world.
