Depending upon how long you have played this franchise or how much you keep up with the happenings in the Call of Duty community you have probably heard this is the first 2 Year Development game since MW2009.

Fear, umm MW2019 and BO and Vanguard still exist so they must be supported...

No, people bitch about it all of the time, but Call of Duty games are titles designed and supported for one year, after that they're generally managed by sledgehammer legacy teams. MW2 will be the first title to be supported until 2024 when the next Call of Duty arrives.

This is actually big news not just for multiplayer but also for Warzone 2.0 and potentially DMZ and Raid modes.

Before we talk about the future lets talk about the now and the immediate -

    Oct 24 - MW2 Campaign Launch
    Oct 30 - MW2 Multiplayer/Spec Op Launch
    Nov14 - Warzone 2.0 / DMZ Launches
    Nov16 - Season 1 Starts
    Nov30 - Raid Mode / CDL Ranked

Dec14 - Season 1 Reloaded date (expect map, operator, and gun then festive shtuff)

Call of Duty typically generates massive PR but once they focus on a particular thing they generally stick with it for about 2 weeks straight.

In the beginning of January we should begin receiving the news of what's next.

    So What's Next?

Sledge Hammer is solely designing Modern Warfare 2.5 - which will be a paid DLC featuring an entirely new campaign, operators, weapons, as well as new maps and about half of the legacy maps. This DLC is not required but it will be integrated into MW2 + Warzone/DMZ. We should see an optional graphical overhaul for the new GPUs and possibly Xbox if the shader implementation goes smoothly.

I would predict Modern Warfare 2.5 would land some time around September but they may begin integration around April. I would assume we will see new Warzone and DMZ maps to follow. In terms of the development cycle this should alleviate alot of the balance issues down the road since the game will have full support.
